ICSL Director
Hossein Kassiri received his B.Sc. degree from the University of Tehran, the M.A.Sc. degree from McMaster University, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto, all in electrical and computer engineering. He joined the EECS department at York University in July 2016, where he is currently an Associate Professor and the Director of the Integrated Circuits and Systems Laboratory (ICSL) and the Center for Microelectronics Prototyping and Test (MPT).
His research interests include the area of design and development of wireless and battery-less multi-modal neural interfacing systems and their application in the monitoring and treatment of neurological disorders. Dr. Kassiri’s publications have received a multitude of best paper awards including in IEEE BioCAS 2021 (Best Student Paper), IEEE ISSCC 2017 (Jack Kilby Award), and IEEE ISCAS 2016 (Best Biomedical Paper Award). He is also the recipient of the Ontario Brain Institute Entrepreneurship Award, the Heffernan Commercialization Fellowship, and the Brian L. Barge Award for Excellence in Microsystems.
He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions in Biomedical Circuits and Systems and currently serves as the local arrangement chair for the IEEE BioCAS2023. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a licensed P.Eng. in Canada.
Graduate Students
Tayebeh Yousefi received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, and the M.A.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from York University, Toronto, ON, Canada, where she is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Her research interests include design and development of a retinal implant for vision restoration in patients with retinal degeneration.
She was the recipient of IEEE BioCAS2021 Best student paper award, York University Fellowship from 2017 to 2023, Hadi & Ozra Arjomandi Scholarship, and Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) in 2022.

Alireza Dabbaghian received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, and the M.A.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from York University, Toronto, ON, Canada, where he is currently working towards the Ph.D. degree with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
His research work is focused on the design of truely-flexible artifact-tolerant wearable EEG microsystems.
He was the recipient of NSERCE L2M Market Research Grant, York University Fellowship from 2017 to 2023, Hadi & Ozra Arjomandi Scholarship, and the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science & Technology (QEII-GSST) in 2022.
Internship: Qualcomm
Mansour Taghadosi received his BSc degree from Ajman University of Science and Technology, UAE, in 2012 and MSc degree from American University of Sharjah, UAE, in 2015, both in Electrical Engineering.
From 2014 to 2017 he worked as a Research Associate at Semiconductor Research
Corporation (SRC) on self-powered integrated wireless systems.
Since 2018 he has been a Ph.D. student in ICSL at York University. His research is on the development and optimization of circuits and systems for the wireless powering of next-generation brain-implantable devices.
Internship: Ansys
Mina Sayedi received her B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology in 2020 and her M.A.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from York University in 2022. Since September 2022, she has been working in ICSL as a Ph.D. student.
Her research is focused on adaptive asynchronous sensing architectures for energy-efficient recording and processing of neuronal signals. She is the recipient of the Lassonde entrance scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year, as well as the Hadi & Ozra Arjomandi scholarship, and the York Graduate scholarship. Her M.A.Sc research work was nominated for the best thesis award.
Abdul Muneeb received his B.Sc. degree in Electronic Engineering from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 2019. From 2019 to 2021 he worked as an Associate Design Engineer with Lampro Mellon (an SoC design and verification services company). From April 2021 to September 2022 he worked as a Research Assistant in the IC Design Lab, Lahore University of Management Sciences(LUMS).
He joined ICSL in September 2022 as an M.A.Sc. student. His research is focused on the development of spiking neural networks (SNNs) for early detection of epilepsy seizures.
Rojin Salahi received her B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology (KNTU) in 2022.
She joined ICSL in September 2022 as an M.A.Sc. student. Her research is focused on the development of predictive controllers for patient-adaptive brain neuro-stimulation.
Maxim Korosteliov earned his B.A.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and Innovation from Queen’s University in 2023. Prior to joining ICSL, he served as an Analog Design Intern at Intel Corporation in Toronto, from May 2021 to August 2022. Additionally, from May to August 2023, he worked as an Electrical Engineering intern at Boston Scientific in Montreal. Maxim became a part of ICSL in September 2023 as an M.A.Sc. student, where his research is focused on the development of asynchronous low-power transmitters for brain-implantable devices.
